Child Abandonment

There have been many instances in the news where a mother has abandoned her newborn child. Sometimes in front of a home, maybe a hospital parking lot or even in a garbage dumpster. This makes us angry. We become outraged at the selfishness and irresponsibility of the poor excuse of a mother.

How often does the church do the same thing. Someone comes to Christ in repentance and we celebrate, we baptize them and we put them in a Sunday School class. But how often do we really take them along and personally show them how to feed on the spiritual milk of the Word. If they have recently been born again, then they are truly infants in Christ. They do not know how to walk spiritually yet.

Like a newborn baby needs someone to care for them, to clothe them, to clean them and to feed them; so a new Christian needs to be clothed, cleansed and fed by the Word of God. They can not do this on their own at first, they must learn - from the spiritually mature.

Go therefore and make disciples.

Daily Bread

We are all familiar with the 'Lord's Prayer' (Matt. 6:9-13):

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread...

For some reason, this phrase caught my ear recently. I know that the daily bread speaks of our daily needs, food to sustain us. But I can not help but think back to the Israelites in the wilderness. God provided them with bread...daily (Exodus 16).

But years later, when the Jews brought this up to Jesus, He said that He was the Bread from heaven (John 6:32-33). The bread in the wilderness was but a sign of the true Bread of Life.

The question is this. Is our desire for our physical needs to be met, or do we yearn for the Bread of Life everyday? Is Christ our desire?

Jesus goes on a little later to teach that we are not to worry about what we will wear or what we will eat, but to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matt. 6:33)

To seek His kingdom does not mean to stand and look around, but the language means to strive for it, to earnestly pursue it. We are to set our minds on His kingdom and His righteousness. What is His righteousness? It's Christ! God put Jesus Christ forth as a propitiation for our sins (Rom. 3:25). He did not look past our sins, but He put them on His Son. In fact, He made Christ to be our sins (2 Cor.5:21). Why? So we might become the righteousness of God!

By God's grace, through the death of His Son, Jesus Christ, through faith the righteousness of God has been applied to us. We have been counted righteous, though we were the vilest of creatures. This through Jesus Christ. His flesh, His body is the Bread we need (John 6:51). His body that He laid on the cross to bear our sins. This is the Bread we need...everyday.

There is a song that goes like this:

In the morning when I rise, in the morning when I rise,
in the morning when I rise, give me Jesus.

Give me Jesus, Give me Jesus.
You can have all this world,
give me Jesus.

So often I neglect to pray first for the true Bread of Life. Father, forgive me. Please give me this day, more of Your Son.

Rob Bell's Gospel

This is an interesting video that gives insight into the thought process of the emerging church. Note the words he ends the video with........ I am the gospel?

Although, I would agree with Rob that the church should be much more involved in the lives of people than it is today, the greater way to make a difference is for us to reform our view of God and not promote how wonderful we are.

A dear brother in Christ just shared with me over lunch a local churches decision to install lighting and disco balls for a "youth" group to the tune of $8K. Miraculously a donation came in for $8K and of course the local church saw this as a "sign" to buy the lighting kits.....

How many people will starve in the world today while each of us pour money into our own version of "lights"?

How many children will be blinded by conducive atmospheres only to to miss the true light in the end?

John 8:12
"Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”"

First Love

In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
1 John 4:10

Does this verse not also counter the argument that God predestined those that He knew ahead of time would accept His Son. It is clear that we did not love Him first, nor did He see something in us that would choose Him - leading Him to predestine us unto salvation.

It is not election that we chose to be elected, but that God "chose us in Him before the foundation of the world"
Ephesians 1:4

Pirate Christian Radio

I just stumbled across this today! I have not listened long enough to review or critic but what I have heard so far is solid.... Seems to have Lutheran slant, but so far it is good listening.

If you are tired of the modern day "Christian Radio" and its cultural blending, then perhaps this is for you.

This is from Pirate Christian Radio's site:

"Pirate Christian Radio is an online radio station that proclaims the true Christian Gospel message that "Christ was crucified for our sins". We also exalt and defend the historic Christian faith from those who are trying to replace or mix it with pop-psychology, self-help, mysticism, liberalism, and Oprah-fied spirituality."
