Feeding On His Flesh

John 6:66 says that 'many of (Jesus') disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.'
So it seems that some of His followers decided to go their separate way. But the Greek language makes more of it than that. Literally, they no longer 'regulated' or conducted their lives with His, or according to His life/example.
This is more than just a physical separation! This is a turning from the only opportunity we have at righteousness...the righteousness from God.
The idea of feeding on His flesh and drinking His blood was absurd to them, but this speaks not of cannibalism. The Bread of Life is not food for our stomachs - but food; indeed life for our soul. To feed on Christ is not to partake of His physical being but to feed and survive on the Word of God. Not only that but our whole being and existence rests on the blood He poured out and the body He gave on the cross - to which we eat and drink in remembrance when observing the Lord's Supper and identify with and hope in. Until He returns.
Those that feed on His flesh and drink His blood (6:56) abide in him. And according to John 8:31, those who abide in Him are truly His disciples.
